A ripe banana does two useful jobs here: it brings sweetness and gives the drink body. Plain yogurt adds a little tang, while milk helps the blender move. Start with the measured liquid and adjust only after the fruit has broken down.

Build the texture you want

Use washed fresh strawberries for this version. The recipe avoids relying on ice for thickness, which can dilute the flavor as it melts. Cold ingredients make a cooler drink; a banana you have sliced and frozen in advance makes a thicker one, but that freezing time is additional to the estimate.

If your smoothie is…Adjust it this way
Too thick to blendStop the motor, then add milk one tablespoon at a time
Too thinBlend in more banana or a spoonful of yogurt
Too tartUse a riper banana; taste before adding sweetener
Unevenly blendedFollow your blender's loading instructions and avoid overfilling

A useful order of work

Wash and trim the strawberries, then measure the dairy. If your blender recommends liquids first, start there; individual machines differ. Stop the appliance before scraping the sides with a utensil. Divide between glasses only after the consistency is even.

Frozen berries are a different ingredient: read the package, follow any cooking directions, and check recalls. Freezing and blending do not sanitize fruit. Our frozen-berry guide explains the distinction.

Swaps and serving notes

An unsweetened alternative beverage and a suitable yogurt alternative can work, but they do not automatically match dairy's texture. Try a small batch before making a pitcher. Check labels for nuts, soy and other allergens.

Make the smoothie close to serving for the best texture. If there is a short delay, cover and refrigerate at 40°F or below; stir before drinking. Do not leave dairy-based drinks at room temperature for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F.

Why not add raw eggs?

They are unnecessary for this blend and introduce avoidable handling concerns. Keep the ingredient list simple. For a different flavor, explore shakes and smoothies.
